Learn a new advanced laboratory experiment well enough to teach it - with confidence!

See the ALPhA Laboratory Immersions wiki page for more information about these and past experiments.

ALPhA’s Laboratory Immersion experiences provide participants with two to three days of intensive hands-on work with a single advanced laboratory experiment. Enrollment is limited to two to three participants per experiment to ensure a confidence-building experience.

The 2021 Immersion program is partially supported by NSF grant DUE-1940925.

Equipment grants are available to Immersion participants.

The Jonathan F. Reichert Foundation has established a grant program to help purchase apparatus used in Laboratory Immersions. Limitations and exclusions apply, but generally speaking the foundation may support up to 40% of the cost of the required equipment. Preference will be given to ALPhA members in good standing. See the Reichert Foundation website for more information.

Jasper Display Corp. offers matching incentive program to Immersion participants

Jasper Display Corp. is offering a $2000 incentive to participants in Immersion experiments which use Spatial Light Modulators (see Reed College and University of the South Immersion sites). Participants are also eligible to apply for a $2000 Reichert Foundation grant to purchase the Jasper SLM Education Kit. With the incentive program and a successful grant application, the SLM Education Kit net cost is only $1000.
